PHOTOS: Trina Turk’s Debut At New York Fashion Week
While some designers might choose to make their New York Fashion Week debut at some offsite venue such as Pier 59, designer Trina Turk went straight into the thick of it at Lincoln Center. But that’s not to say that this is Turk’s very first collection. In fact, she actually opened her first store in 2002, and just decided to debut her California-inspired fall collection at NYFW.
“Since this is the first time doing New York Fashion Week, we decided to do a presentation so that people could come and go as they please,” Turk told us Sunday afternoon. “I think that we’re getting a lot of digital mileage out of this because there’s a lot of footage being shot, which we’ll probably cut into something later.”
But there was so much more than just video footage. Because a presentation allows show goers to take as many photos as they want, Turk’s layered ensembles were getting a huge social media push as well. Show goers were indeed posting photos of Turk’s menswear-influenced outfits onto Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. “We just thought that a presentation was the best way to go with our first time showing here, so that people could spend as much or as less time as they wanted,” the designer said. It also helps that showing a presentation is a lot less expensive than putting on a traditional show, and people can appreciate the clothes for more than just a few seconds.
As for doing future presentations or shows, Turk simply said, “We kind of wanted to see how it went today, and then go from there.”
