The Queen Repeats Her Royal Wedding Outfit, Kate Sadly Does Not
It’s Trooping the Colour time again! What’s that, you ask? Why, it’s Queen Elizabeth II‘s official birthday celebration, always held in June despite the fact that Her Majesty’s actual birthday passed by in April. Apparently this particular celebration is quite separate from the myriad parties and pageantry that have gone down in the past few weeks.
The birthday girl arrived amid much pomp and circumstance in the same buttercup yellow Angela Kelly outfit she wore to the royal wedding, though she eschewed last years’s subdued cream accessories in favor of low black heels and a sassy patent handbag.
Kate Middleton, unfortunately, did not repeat her wedding outfit. Probably didn’t want to steal Liz’s thunder. Instead, she wore a dove gray Erdem dress, which we really, truly wish we loved — after all, she’s had some great Erdem moments in the past and his resort collection is the stuff dreams are made of — but the embroidery feels a little stuffy, even for an 86-year-old’s birthday party. She paired the dress with a Jane Corbett hat, which resembled a satellite dish from certain angles but otherwise was quite lovely. The real sartorial stars here were the men, though, done up as they were in their scarlet military regalia. Lookin’ good, you newfound style icons you.
