Tyra Banks Is Doing Vogue Italia A Favor By Partnering

When we first heard that the winner of next season’s America’s Next Top Model would be gracing the cover of Vogue Italia, we thought the partnership had Andre Leon Talley’s name all over it. But according to Tyra Banks, that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

While from our perspective, the Vogue Italia collaboration would be doing wonders for for ANTM’s high-fashion cred, it turns out that the continental mag was the one looking for cred — American cred, that is. (Watch out, Anna.)

According to WWD, who spoke to Banks about the genesis of the deal, “Italian Vogue editor in chief Franca Sozzani initially reached out to Banks, stressing she wanted to expand into the American marketplace.”

To be honest, this news puts a bit of a damper on our excitement. Here we thought Vogue Italia was ANTM’s knight in couture armour, when all along they were the ones looking to be Americanized. That said, media is all about spin and we have no doubt that Banks doesn’t like the idea of ANTM needing a sartorial savior, so it’s worth taking this version of the story with a grain of salt.

And finally Anna Wintour isn’t the only one who should be watching her back, Banks also told WWD about her plans for an online fashion and beauty portal that will be “unlike anything that’s currently available on the Web.” As the relative new kids on the block, we’ll be the first to say, we’ll believe it when we see it.
