Which Retired Designer Is Having His Life Turned Into A Musical?

It’s been a long time coming, but one of our far-fetched fashion dreams looks like it might actually come true. Because one of the world’s most legendary designers — one of the few we’d actually be comfortable calling an artist — is exploring the option of having his or her life turned into a highly produced Broadway show. Can you guess who it is? You can’t? Click and all shall be revealed!

Valentino Garavani, the couturier famous for his glamorous red dresses, told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica yesterday that he’s looking into turning his fascinating life into a Tony-award winning show. And we have no doubt he could do just that, given how well the 2007 documentary movie about his life, The Last Emperor, turned out. In fact, it’s the feedback from that very theatrical endeavor that makes him so confident about the stage show.

“I came across as a despot. The director had surprised [Giancarlo] Giammetti and me when we were arguing, which we always do in French. But then (at the end of the screening) the applause never stopped and I realised that people liked me as I am. The film was even more successful in Toronto (film festival),” he told the newspaper.

And it’d probably make a killing in New York! We don’t even know what the songs would sound like, but we’d bet a good portion of them would an awesome Rome-in-the-60s feeling, and the set design and costumes would probably be out of this world.

Don’t believe us? It’s probably just because you haven’t seen the movie. Take a look at the trailer and tell us it wouldn’t make an amazing show.

Of course he is the right person to do so! And the music I perfectly can feel Bryan Ferry doing the composition or the sounds. And Have you ever tought about a Runway on Broadway for a Fashion Musical? That’s so avant-garde!
