Valentino’s Latest Campaign Stars Terry’s Tattooed Forearm
We’ve heard of Terry Richardson getting handsy during photo shoots but this is something else.
Valentino, the house whose name is all but synonymous with romance and understated luxury, has enlisted the love-him-or-hate-him photographer for their fall 2013 accessories campaign, and not only do the images bear his trademark white backdrop and super bright lighting, they also feature his heavily inked forearm. The ads, which drop today worldwide, show Richardson clutching some the brand’s biggest moneymakers, the Rockstud Rouge and Rockstud Noir studded shoes and handbags, and are about as drastic a departure as they come from the hazy, ultrasoft campaigns of seasons past.
WWD quotes Maria Grazia Chiuri, one half of the house’s design duo, as saying the campaign conveys “the sensual yet elegant nature of our accessories, described as objects of desire.” There’s no doubt that the pieces are desired by many, but will the Valentino customer respond to the new look?
