Model Wins Settlement In Vampire Weekend Album Cover Case

Just over a year ago, model Ann Kirsten Kennis filed suit after Vampire Weekend used a 27-year-old photo of her for the cover of their album Contra. She wanted $2 million from the band, their label, and photographer Richard Brody.

Kennis did not grant permission for the photo to be used — in fact, Brody forged her model release. Kennis has won an undisclosed settlement, but Brody is in hot water. He licensed the Polaroid (which he may not even have taken!) to the band for $5000. They are now suing him, claiming he is responsible for all liability in the matter. We have to agree with them!

To complicate matters, Brody no longer has legal help at his disposal; his lawyers left after he failed to pay his bills. Yikes.

the fans of this band have poor manners, from the very earliest news reports it was obvious that this woman had been ripped-off bigtime. not only an album cover but a giant mural of her behind all the gigs and bus benches all over the world. the band was so smug after stealing from her, continuing to base their act on her…….her image was stolen and i hope she received a decent settlement…..it’s been some time since this story and these fans have evolved into ows people, they have no respect for private property and they have no dignity. typical nimbys wouldnt share anything with you and wouldnt help you if you were lying in the street.
