Can We Talk About Vanity Fair‘s Young Hollywood Cover?

There are magazine covers and then there are magazine covers, and Vanity Fair‘s March issue one is definitely the latter.

For its annual Hollywood issue, a key stop on the Academy Award campaign trail, the magazine pulled out all the stops. The tri-fold was shot by Norman Jean Roy over the course of two days in Los Angeles and New York. The very front stars Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal and Oscar hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco. Then it folds out, and you see Jennifer Lawrence, Anthony Mackie, Olivia Wilde, Jesse Eisenberg and Mila Kunis. Then it folds out again and there’s Robert Duvall playing bartender, along with Joseph Gordon Levitt, Andrew Garfield, Rashida Jones looking amazing in Tom Ford women’s collection, Garrett Hedlund and Noomi Rapace. Lots of names, we know. We should have warned you.

That a few of these young guns are nominated for Oscars (Franco, Lawrence, Eigenberg) is awesome, but that this picture looks like it could have been taken in the 40s is what has us thrilled. We also sort of wish the pictures we took with our friends in bars looked one tenth as elegant as this one does.

Click on the photo above to enlarge it and take in the splendor, then watch how it came together in the video below.

um splendor? I’m sorry but I have a few issues with this cover:
    a) I dare you to find the one and only non-white person in this picture at first glace.
    b) whoo on this cover is actually nominated for an oscar besides james franco and jesse eisenberg?
    c) why is rashida jones feeding a baby lion in a bar?
    d) where did olivia wilde’s clothes go??

elegance does not make up for lack of thought and people who actually represent hollywood well… jus’ sayin’
