Donatella Does Not Want ‘Real Women’ Modeling Versace For H&M

Versace for H&M hasn’t even hit stores yet, and the backlash has already begun. Is Donatella not down with real women wearing her designs?

That’s what the New York Daily News is positing. The paper set up a photo shoot involving recent college graduates wearing pieces from the diffusion collection, which was then canceled by H&M:

The H&M publicist initially explained by email that the “Model New Yorkers” photo feature could probably not go forward because Versace had to approve “anyone who wears the collection for press” — and, she added, “Donatella will likely not approve shooting the collection on real women.”

Yikes. Apparently the Daily News sent the company photos of a couple of the women who were to be modeling the duds, but only one of them was approved as the other was deemed off-brand. This is disappointing! The whole point of doing an H&M collection is to bring high fashion to “real people”. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense that Donatella wouldn’t be cool with real ladies being photographed in the clothes, when those are the ladies who will (theoretically, at least) be buying and wearing the goods.

We’re surprised with how candid the H&M publicist was, and if this happened to us, we would have reported it just as the Daily News did. However, we do have to think that if Donatella was really concerned with branding, she probably shouldn’t have done a line with a mass retailer in the first place.

Judging from some of the pieces I don’t think Donatella ever meant for ‘real women’ to wear the line.

Hmmm, I wonder what that means for bloggers?  Does that mean that Versace wouldn’t be too happy about me posting pictures of myself in the collection on my site at 5’2″ and a size 0?

Meh, look at the..ah, er, guy? woman? Who’d want to wear what, he? she? designs after seeing him? her? modelling one of his? her? designs?  If he? she? doesn’t want real women to model, the yellow dress in particular, he? she? may as well pack the line up and burn it.

Donatella is a caricature herself- she is not a real woman but looks like something from outer space (she is even scarier in person- I’ve seen her).  No wonder she doesn’t want real women to wear her clothes.  That’s ok cupcake, real women won’t want to buy your clothes either, and then watch what happens to your pocketbook.

Don’t you just love these Euro trash type celebs who bite the hands that feed them?

Aw guys, c’mon you are better than this! Donatella didn’t even say this. Some pr person who could have totally misconstrued the meaning of why Donatella wanted to see the pieces. No context. I usually like reading your posts because they are smart and written well but this is class A tabloid trash. Thumbs down.
