Vittorio Missoni Missing After Plane Disappears In South America
A small plane carrying Vittorio Missoni, head of the Missoni fashion house, disappeared off of the coast of Venezuela at some point on Friday morning. Missoni was traveling with his wife, Maurizia Castiglioni, from a resort on the archipelago of Los Roques back towards Caracas when the aircraft lost contact. The string of islands is a popular vacation destination, and the couple was reportedly returning from a holiday trip with a few Italian friends.
A spokeswoman for the family was unable to offer more information, but noted that Venezuelan officials would be resuming their search for the missing plane today, which included four other passengers in addition to Missoni and Castiglioni.
Vittorio, 58, is the son of Ottavio and Rosita Missoni, who founded the company in 1953, and uncle of model Margherita Missoni. He co-owns the Italian house with his siblings, Angela (chief designer for the brand) and Luca.
