Mysterious Text Message Leads Missoni Family To Suspect Kidnapping
The search for Vittorio Missoni, CEO of the Missoni fashion house, has been underway by air and sea ever since his plane disappeared off the coast of Venezuela on Friday. While there are fears that he and his fellow passengers may have been victims of a plane crash, a new development has renewed the family’s hope that they may in fact still be alive.
The son of Guido Foresti, one of the other people aboard the aircraft, received a mysterious text message from his father’s cell phone late Sunday night, saying, in Italian: “Call now, we are reachable.” The Daily Beast reports that Italian telephone company Telecom Italia Mobile has confirmed to a local news station that the message was indeed sent, although they cannot verify exactly when it was written. Foresti and his son were in contact up until the plane took off from Los Roques, however calls to the number now indicate that the phone has been turned off.
Angela Missoni, Vittorio’s sister and creative director of the brand, spoke to reporters today in Italy, expressing hope that her brother and his companions are still alive. “It’s better to be kidnapped than at the bottom of the sea,” she said. “We hope all four are alive and well. We also hope that the searches go in all directions.”
