Vogue Names Olsen Twins Best Dressed Sisters Of The Year
Sisters (like, actual blood-related sisters who grew up under the same roof) are doing it for themselves. The 2011 edition of Vogue‘s Best Dressed issue is dedicated to superstar siblings from all over the world, and everyone’s favorite designing duo, Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen, sit front and center on the issue’s cover.
The two are joined in the issue by other stellar sister acts, including Beyonce and Solange Knowles, Kate and Pippa Middleton and the ever-present Courtins-Clarins girls, Claire and Virginie, who set flashbulbs ablaze whenever they show up for fashion week.
Also on the list are actors Kate and Rooney Mara (who’s already on the November cover of Vogue) slightly younger actors Dakota and Elle Fanning, models Poppy and Cara Delevigne and French acting/singing/modeling sensations Lou Doillon and Charlotte Gainsbourg, both of whom are daughters of Jane Birkin.
With so many stylish women to choose from, a cover featuring any of the sisters would have probably sold like hotcakes. But Vogue‘s Fashion News Director Mark Holgate told Reuters that choosing the Olsens was “kind of a no brainer.”
“They (the Olsens) get it right a lot of the time and then sometimes they don’t get it right. That’s actually great because it shows that it’s their hands reaching into their wardrobes,” explained Holgate. “They don’t have someone telling them, ‘This is cool, this is hot, this is what you should be wearing.’ It comes from within them. It’s instinctual.
“Look at what they’ve done with (their fashion labels) The Row and Elizabeth and James,” said Holgate. “They are legitimate fashion forces.”
