PHOTOS: See All Six Vogue Italia Anniversary Covers
Of course we’ll always be betrothed to Anna Wintour and the U.S. edition, but we think that Vogue Italia is really having its moment on the 25th anniversary of having Franca Sozzani at its helm. We read Sozzani’s Telegraph interview over our morning coffee, and loved how candid she got about the industry and its penchant for the ridiculous. She explains:
“When you look at the front row… Only at the shows you see those people. When [other] women go out and enjoy their life they want to be beautiful, they don’t want to be ridiculous. There is no man who wants to be with a ridiculous woman. It’s only the fashion crowd. They dress to be portrayed by bloggers and street style [photographers]. It became a fashion to be outrageous.”
While the fashion crowd is near and dear to our hearts, it’s always reassuring to hear someone so entrenched in the ridiculousness say aloud what we’re all thinking. When’s the last time we’ve even heard a peep from Anna? (The real Anna, that is).
And if Sozzani’s candor isn’t enough to win you over, we guarantee six special pull-out anniversary covers photographed by Steven Meisel will do the trick. View the covers below, and star emptying our your money jar because you’re about to splurge on a one-way ticket to Italy, or at least six Vogue Italia editions (which might even be more expensive, if our local glossy shop is any indicator).
