WATCH: Iris Apfel And The Ladies Of Advanced Style On Today

Ari Seth Cohen and the ever-inspiring ladies of Advanced Style were on The Today Show this morning talking with host Matt Lauer about (what else?) the age-defying pleasure of dressing up.

Cohen brought along 91-year-old Dazed cover girl and “geriatric starlet” Iris Apfel, 92-year-old Today vet Ilona Royce Smithkin, and the “spring chicken” of the bunch, 79-year-old boutique owner Lynn Dell. The photographer explained his motivation behind starting the Advanced Style blog, whose accompanying book is on shelves now: “When I moved to New York I saw all these older women dressed up, living their lives to the fullest, so I wanted to put the focus on older women.” And that he did, which Apfel, for one, is wholeheartedly grateful for:

“I think its wonderful that he’s doing this for us — and not just for us, but for all those poor ladies out there who think that after a certain age they have to roll up and die or look like they’re wearing widow’s weaves.”
