Wimbledon Uniforms Get A Stylish New Update

Whether its Federer’s unexpected friendship with Anna Wintour, Nadal’s $525,000 accessory, or Venus Williams‘ on and off-court clothing choices, tennis stars are indisputably some of the most fashion-forward athletes out there. With Wimbledon’s qualifying round this week, we thought we’d call some attention to the other style mavens on the court: the ball girls and boys.

Ralph Lauren, the official outfitter of Wimbledon, has designed an updated uniform for the British teenagers handpicked to work the sidelines of the famous championship. Until this year, the uniform consisted of a navy blue polo shirt baring the Ralph Lauren emblem in white with a green boarder along the collar, the Wimbledon logo on the right sleeve, and matching navy blue shorts for the boys and tennis skirts for the girls.

If anyone knows how to combine tradition and style into a classic update, its Lauren. This year the polo has gotten a preppy new addition: two bold stripes in Wimbledon’s signature colors, purple and green, are printed diagonally from the right shoulder down the shirt. The Wimbledon logo remains on the right sleave. Our favorite part is the white stitching on the collar that reads “125th” in honor of the championship’s anniversary this year.

Lauren signed on to be the official outfitter of Wimbledon in 2006, when he revamped the umpire blazers from ill fitting green jackets to tailored blue blazers with white piping. He renewed his contract, which was up this year, through 2015.

So, while we can’t blame you for checking out what you’re favorite players are wearing in the championship next week (after all, if its anything like last year, we can expect to see designer outfits worth millions), be sure to keep an eye out for the sleek new uniforms the ball girls and boys will be sporting!
