Women In Film Awards Brings A Sea Of Black And Not Much Else
Women In Film has been helping women in the entertainment industry since 1973. The organization offers members everything from career advice to film finishing funds, and much in between. Speaker series, scholarships, networking events, a mentoring program — all of this is part of what Women In Film does on a day to day basis. But once a year, in true Hollywood spirit, the ladies of the organization get dressed up for an awards ceremony and fundraiser, the The Crystal + Lucy Awards.
This years’ honorees included producer Donna Langley, cinematographer Cynthia Pusheck, director Lisa Cholodenko, and actresses Courtney Cox and Zoe Saldana. Last night, Hollywood’s powerhouse entertainment industry women gathered in cocktail attire at the Hyatt Regency Century Hotel in Los Angeles to celebrate themselves, their careers and the hard work that it took to get them where they are.
The shade of the evening was black, with the exception of a few pops of color here and there. And while we understand the focus of the evening was not necessarily fashion, we think all of these ladies could have stepped it up — especially Ms. Saldana who recently has floored us with her elegance. But at least she, unlike most, decided to wear something a little original. The majority of the evening was a yawn, sartorially speaking, and left us wondering who sent out the memo that the LBD was must. It’s a strange night on a red carpet when Busy Phillips is wearing the most eye catching dress.
Here are some of our favorite — and least favorite — looks from last night’s 2010 Crystal + Lucy Awards.
