‘World War II Evacuee’ Costume For Little Girls Is Most Offensive Of All Time (UPDATED)

UPDATE, 10.31.2011: Last week we published the post below about a World War II evacuee costume. Though we updated the post with a description of the British tradition of children dressing up for Evacuee Day, the response we are continuing to get regarding the post makes it clear we need to address the issue further.

When the photo of the costume reached our inbox, we were confused. Out of cultural context, it looked like what we originally reported it to be: a costume portraying a WWII refugee. We researched the costume, but ultimately did not find any sort of explanation. As such, we assumed this was yet another example of insensitive and offensive merchandise.

Soon after the post was published, blogger Nick Douglas posted about Evacuee Day, in which British students dress up as children who were evacuated to the country after London was bombed during WWII. As we quoted below, he explained: “UK primary school national curriculum says kids need to learn about significant British history. It also says small children learn about history best through empathy. ‘Empathise’ in the teaching of 5- and 6-year olds means ‘Dress up as’.” Others posited the outfit was meant to be that of the evacuee children from The Lion, The Witch, and Wardrobe, and that the generic name allowed the costume company to circumvent licensing fees.

Either way, it is clear we did not view this costume in the proper context.

The original post, including our update, is below.

***

Just when we thought some headway was being made with the whole offensive costume situation in this country, we came across the worst costume of all time. Are you going to be a World War II evacuee for Halloween?

This is a costume that exists! And it’s for little girls! Some company called Girls Fantasy is selling it, and it is the WORST! The costume in question involves a navy dress, 1940s-style flats, a beret, and a satchel with some sort of tag. IS THIS A JOKE?! All that’s missing is a yellow star.

The inspiration seems to be Anne Frank (who, for the record, never escaped the war and died in a concentration camp). Holocaust-related children’s costumes: bringing offensiveness to a whole new level. What’s next? War refugee duds? Child soldier uniforms? Awful. And because we’re mad, and this is somewhat related, read this after contemplating the costume below.

UPDATE: Blogger Nick Douglas posted this explanation to his Tumblr.

UK primary school national curriculum says kids need to learn about significant British history.
It also says small children learn about history best through empathy.
“Empathise” in the teaching of 5- and 6-year olds means “Dress up as”
So schools declare that they are having an “Evacuee Day”, “Victorian Day”, “Roman Britain Day” etc.
Parents get letter informing them that their little darling has to dress up as an Evacuee, Victorian child, Roman, etc.
Time-poor, stressed parents don’t want to have to spend ages researching and making said costume when they could be spending their time w/their actual child (or OK watching TV) (this doesn’t really apply for the Roman one because that costume is a sheet)
Internet search reveals readymade costume (see photo above)
Parents grumblingly shell out their £15 or so. All kids at school end up dressed identically. Costume company laughs all the way to the bank.

Actually, you have it wrong. This isn’t a costume for a child to pretend they’re being sent to a concentration camp! This is a costume evoking the actual evacuation of children from London (and other major cities) to the countryside during the Blitz when Germany was bombing them every night. Children would have these tags with their names and information on it so they wouldn’t get lost or mistakenly go to the wrong family who had volunteered to take care of them. The awful part is that a lot of children were traumatized by something that was done ostensibly to protect them, but that is a very far cry from being rounded up for the sole purpose of being exterminated. Here’s a link to explain further: http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/british/britain_wwtwo/evacuees_01.shtml

  • http://www.facebook.com/satterfield.mike Michael Satterfield

It is a poor choice in name, but the costume is nothing more than a end run around licensing. They are attempting to tie into the Lion the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Check out the actual costume from the movie. http://costumes.narniaweb.com/pevensiesfiles/lutrain5.jpg  it is not a concentration camp costume, any company that would attempt that would be insane. Likely the company is from China or Korea and got the name wrong.

What, Julia, are you a moron? Or just uneducated? I’m going with uneducated. Read the comments, and you will understand how mistaken you were.

  • John

No, no no.  The costume portrays a BRITISH kid evacuated from a city to the countryside during the Blitz.  At least  TRY to get some basic facts right before climbing on your high horse.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Barry-Bunes/1164525013 Barry Bunes

No I was the most tasteless costume when I went as a used tampon

  • Peacebaby

As others have stated, this article is just plain wrong. The costume has nothing to do with Anne Frank or the Holocaust.

The costume doesn’t come with a gold star, and neither does this article.

  • Adam

“All that’s missing is a yellow star”.

After writing this the author still didn’t realise that the costume has nothing to do with the holocaust? Blinded by pointless anger or just plain stupid?

There is an orange-juice drink in Japan that is marketed under the label “POM”. Perhaps I, a British citizen, should take offence at the producers callous reference to the Australian nickname/insult “Prisoners Of the Motherland” which was often used to refer to residents of Britain?

Articles like this really do lower the reputation of the site that hosts them, as well as reminding me that the problems of poor eduction are not limited to the third world.

  • Adam

Just in case there are people don’t pick up on it, my post is mostly sarcastic, especially the third paragraph.

  • Ian_Kemp

Seriously? Good grief, seems your history is sadly laking. Go to Netflix, rent “The Railway Children”, and then stop making an arse out of yourself.

Oh…don’t have time for a movie, got more thing to jump to a conclusion about, then go to this link, learn, and the YOU need to apologize to all the London evacuee, WE ARE WAITING!!!

  • Mark

I was going to state how un educated Julia Rubin must be to write such garbage, as this has plainly nothing to do with the holocaust! It seems plenty have beaten me to it though. I think maybe Julia should start with looking up the difference between escapee and evacuee, as she has mentioned Anne Frank never escaped the concentration camp. What escaping a camp and evacuation have to do with each other I don’t know…

  • Azalea0915

poor choice of name? the costume depicts a British EVACUEE- oops- I forgot that Americans and the Jewish people have totally forgotten that the Russia and the British, ( commonwealth countries included, oz, canada, nz etc ), fought longer and lost more people in the war than America did. ( it’s estimated up to 30% of ALL victims of WW2 were Russian ).
Little Australia fought for almost 4 yrs before America even rocked up- Japan took sex slaves and murdered some of them, ( some were Australian and British women ), and our awesome friends America never insisted that Japan make any kind of compensation for that- the ONLY country in the world to demand that the JP emperor be tried for war crimes, ( as he was the head of the state, same as Hitler or more recently Saddam ), but nah- the US insisted we drop that- real cool eh the Japanese even tortured and murdered some private American citizens but hey- don’t let what’s right get in the way of money, America.
What’s the old saying ummm,,, is it ‘with friends like these…’

  • Azalea0915

    Well said Friend Sweet.
For those who need more education on how awesome and perfect the Jewish people and America is–
( before reading remember no one is perfect we’ve all erred before but it really pees people off when you pretend you have never made a mistake while hassling others- live in glass house don throw stones type thing ).

From what I have read the Blitz was intentionally designed to target military/ political complex to bring about a quick end Blitzkrieg= Lightning war Germans didnt start bombing cities untill they were firebombed by the Allies. The Germans didnt even devolep a heavy bomber like the Americans did.
I dont know what kind of uniforms the French or British gave anyone but it would seem like a waste of time

  • Sam Fisher

So basically what she is saying is that dressing up as something that looks similar to a “holocaust survivor,” is the most offensive thing of all time. I didn’t know upsetting a jew is worse than, say, upsetting a muslim by dressing as a terrorist! And these jews, such as the writer of this article Julia Rubin, wonder why nobody takes them seriously? It seems in the blindly-swinging zionist attempt to influence positive internet opinion about them, they make themselves out to be just a typical bunch of loonies constantly throwing the victim card around.

  • Mosheed

    That’s a shame.

  • John Ritchie

Any intelligent person is bored to tears with the whole “Holocaust” narrative. Of course this costume has nothing to do with the jews. But since they own the media, EVERYTHING must revolve around them. Julia Rubin, a word of caution. The Jewish Victim Card is running out……..

  • jewsdidit911

Did it even really happen?  I’ve been studying this thing lately and I am now convinced that it is a lie.  That is why they throw historians in jail for speaking the truth.

  • Thomas X

Yes I watched a video by a young Jewish man called ‘David Cole Auschwitz’ and it appears much of the narrative about the holocaust cannot be verified.  I also find it quite disturbing that in many European countries it has been made a criminal offence to question the event.  Why outlaw free speech unless there is something to hide?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Adam-West/100001284986792 Adam West

Julia Rubin – Get real … I suppose little girls dressing up as Scarlet O’Hara don’t bother you bit – or how about those costumes of cowboys who ki//ed indians, or those Confederate Soldier costumes – what about those.

Rubin – you need to stop being a little princess and grow up, ease up & chill out

  • Nonplussed

The Jewish communities of Europe suffered in a unique way in the Second World War, but they did not hold the monopoly on suffering. Other peoples have their own history, permit them to express their history as they see fit.

actually, I find this whole article offensive.

Please, do yourself a favour and read ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’ for a very nice story about four British evacuee children.

You, moron, are a blight on both women and writers. Please, go take a long run off a short pier… and don’t bother swimming back!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=703899946 Tj Goldstein

Quite frankly… moron… I’m trying my hardest to find an email addy so I can write to your bosses and tell them directly how offended I am by your stupidity.. lack of general knowledge… lack of anything resembling an apology to the thousands of British evacuees you’ve managed to offend and really, the attitude that you simply can’t be bothered doing a minutes worth of research in regards to the article you’ve ‘written’.

Woman, once again.. you offend me.

  • TD

Good god you’re a moron, Julia Rubin.

  • David Cole

Anne Frank, a girl with a poop fetish, died from Typus, a disease she contracted due to her poor personal hygiene. Despite her Jewish wealth, stolen from the German people, (“Judea” had openly declared war on Germany at the time) she lived in a ghetto. The Nazis quarantined her and attempted to cure her at the people’s expense. Because the British bombed supply lines, Germans could not feed themselves. The hospitalized got first dibs on food, but Frank was too far gone.

Then she wrote a “diary” with a ballpoint pen about how much she hates gentiles, but that’s okay because 1000 gentiles aren’t even worth as much a one Jewish fingernail.

    No one’s buying it, Rubinsten!

  • http://twitter.com/slychd Chad

How ignorant and ill informed the writer of this article is.  I would like to see her print a retraction.  People like this are the reason Journalism is failing.

David Cole, you are a troll.

Being a world war II young evacuee sent overseas to a hell on earth family wanting nothing but free slave labor, scum who think like you should not be allowed to exist. If you died tomorrow, I’d not feel remorse, I’d celebrate.

  • Anonymous

Did you yourself, really happen? Are you simply a figment of your imagination? Are you a lie, like you claim the truth, is a lie?  From one who lived through your, ”did it really happen”, I can assure you it did.

As for yourself, dropping dead tomorrow would be a good thing.

  • Anonymous

Unfortunately, the US is like that. The powers that be keep thier heads in the sand of ignorance, until the enemy that’s been attacking other countries decides to attack the US as well.  The funny thing is how America loves to take full credit for defeating the ememy, even though the US was the last to take a stand against them.

  • Rubbish

Wow you sure don’t like Jews or Americans. I’m sorry but without American intervention you would be speaking German now… But hey, fuck america right?

  • Jtays

OK but just wait till the first time NATO wants to intervene somewhere and America says they do not want to participate, then it’ll be all screaming about how America lets down the rest of the world. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

  • Rubbish

Oh yes the jews control the media…. Ok…. A bit paranoid, huh? That is the exact sort of anti-semitic bs that’s been around for so long. The jewish victim card? Really? I guess jews are just asking to be persecuted and gassed to death….

  • Oh my

It can’t be verified? Have you ever read a history book? OMG ….. You don’t question history. That’ s like saying
Pearl Harbor never happened just because it happened long ago. I’m sure its alllll made up, all the videos, photos , eye witness accounts.. All made up, probably by the jewish media…

  • Alétheia

Hm… so you’re a denier of the Holocaust? I’m honestly not trying to stir up any trouble, but could you explain what you mean by the fact that a lot about it cannot be verified, and why you believe it should be questioned in general? I could never understand why people would (and how they could) deny it when so much horrible proof exists for it. :/

  • Jerry Baustian

I am continually amazed by the anti-Semitism of the left. They used to be opposed to bigotry, but now they celebrate it.

  • Noneofyoufuckingbusiness!!

Actually most Americans would of sided with Germany.  Some of us do remember from where we came and who the real enemy of the world is.  1776 wasn’t that long ago and neither was the war of 1812, or for that matter our civil war…To hell with Great Briton!!!

  • Welsh Andy

Actually it was the Russians that turned the tide of war, but wevs.
And aye Azalea0915 is talking utter crap as well. Why let actual history get in the way of a bit of patriotic(racist in the case of Azalea0915) b/s eh?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=739111616 Jan Thoms

Did Ms. Rubin do any research whatsoever before writing this article? ANY??? Does she realize what a total moron she looks like?  Please. Unfortunately there are people out there who will believe this drivel. Please tell me a retraction will be forthcoming.

  • Zephyr

Seriously? I didn’t think anybody could be quite as ignorant as Ms Rubin appears to be. The only thing that the BRITISH child evacuees from the London Blitz have in common with the holocaust (which happened in Germany, BTW, Ms Rubin, NOT the UK) is that they both happened during WW2. Did you skip history class completely?

  • Anonymous

LOL.  Now there is a ‘news’ story from ABC http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs/world-war-ii-evacuee-costume-sparks-outrage-online-180344547.html

There are even bigger morons than the author.  That article ends with ‘is this costume educational or offensive, tell us in the comments.’  Why should a bunch of other morons have a say, there doesn’t need to be any other comments except… pay a little attention to history before climbing on your high horse. Google UK evacuees.

The costume is not offensive, this article and the news media is.  You cause more disrespect to Holocaust survivors and victims by loudly trumpeting your great offense when in fact you don’t care enough to learn anything about it beyond what you think YOU (It’s about you) should be offended by.

    You suck.

  • lala203

The costume is nothing, the name is just horrendous.

  • Matt B

Might I suggest that Ms. Rubin is one of those hyper-sensitive liberal media types who are always on the look-out for something to be “offensive”?  “All that’s missing is a yellow star”?  Seriously?  A friend of mine said, “that’s like looking at a white t-shirt and saying, ‘imagine a bunch of racial slurs written on this shirt in magic marker…how OFFENSIVE!!!’”  Ms. Rubin obviously knows just enough about history to be a danger to herself and to others.  The article is what’s offensive…not the costume.

  • Brucefcard

When you say bad things about the Jews, look up, because that is who you are talking to, and He hears you.

Julia, go watch/read/learn about WW2 and once you’ve done that, go get laid. You clearly need it bad.

I am confused about why this post is still up.  Has the author not realized she made a mistaken assumption based on an inadequate knowledge of history?  People are sharing this on their FB pages and retweeting it, which actions only spread the misinformation.  I can understand that journalists make mistakes, but *responsible* journalists follow those mistakes with *corrections*.

I’m American, but let’s get our history right….

    US military deaths: 416,000
    Soviet Union military deaths: 8,800,000 – 10,000,000

Both my grandfathers fought in the war, but come on… way to reinforce the OP’s statement that American’s are totally ignorant about WWII history.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_LHICUHNWSXQG2JEI7B73ZKWOFA Trance

The point of this blog is being lost, its an evacuee dress, typical of the times, not any sort of uniform whatever, an evacuee child was sent voluntarily by its parents to stay with families in the less dangerous countryside for the duration of the war. How do i know this, becos i was one myself. I do not expect Americans to understand this, their knowledge of anything outside of America and almost all within America is a mystery to most. As for the inference to anything Jewish, that is just mischief and completely erroneous. The children carried a gas mask with them on a shoulder strap and a label with identity details pinned to their jackets in case any got lost, no more devious than that. And Sharmaine your recollection of history is flawed, The American public was most reluctant to enter the war and was compicuously absent from any fighting for several years, it only entered when German sabateurs were caught landing from a submarine on the coast of New Jersey. Prior to that America was growing fat on the profits of selling armaments just as they do today. The Russians lost far more men than any other nation and its perfectly true that if it were not for the Russian troops the war would have gone on for much, much longer, becos the Americans had to await delivery of the Coca Cola machines prior to any advance.

In reply to both Welsh Andy and meliariel – OK so since we didn’t lose as many soldiers, we weren’t helpful.  There’s really no other way to say it since clearly you’re implying that more military deaths means American intervention didn’t make a difference when it clearly did.

One big reason it made a difference – the threat of Soviet Hegemony in all of Europe instead of just Eastern Europe.  Remember there used to be a gigantic wall separating Western and Eastern Germany.  Without U.S. intervention, all of Europe might have spent those decades after WWII looking like East Germany and beyond. See:http://www.answers.com/topic/franklin-d-roosevelt

I think it’s actually suppose to be a british child evacuee from the blitz, and had to escape to the english countryside to escape the bombings. It’s still offensive none the less. And as I already mentioned on another siteWhat makes it worse is that the costume brand is “Girlz Fantasy.” Because what girl doesn’t fantasize about trying to escape certain death and worrying about you or the people you love getting captured and killed, and if one was able to escape wondering where to go to next and picking up the pieces and wondering if they’ll see their families again. What girl hasn’t fantasized about that?

WOW, some reporter, and so much for being UNBIASED!!! Hey Julia, I strongly suggest you GO BACK TO SCHOOL, and maybe this time PAY ATTENTION to HISTORY. Before you go making ignorant, unfounded comments especially regarding a COSTUME, that’s meant for a children’s celebration of a pagan holiday, you should learn the “origin” of the “evacuee costume”……as I’m sure many many posters on here have already informed you of it’s origination, BUT just to pound it into your empty head, the children of LONDON and surrounding cities were sent into the countryside to protect them from the bombing of London during the blitz. Go rent “The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe” and you’ll see how this little piece of history was incorporated into a MOVIE for CRYING OUT LOUD.

  • Kbp08

Such a disrespectful and ignorant comment. I hope you aren’t American, the Greatest Generation would be absolutely ashamed to hear you represent their sacrifices like you did.  Please do your homework before blasting the country that essentially galvonized the allied war effort and aided in saving countless lives.  Disgraceful.

  • AJ Perko

Anne Frank was in Germany….   this is English.  Obviously, you needed the history lesson

  • Bookworm

So you “researched the costume, but didn’t find any explanation” Except, presumably, for the writing clearly visible on the packaging itself which states “evacuee” not “refugee.”

Even if the word isn’t in your personal vocabulary it’s a fairly common word & one which can be found in any dictionary. Googling “WW2 Evacuee” would have told you all you needed to know.

I’m shocked at such sloppy journalism. Even if you weren’t aware of the evacuees in the UK, I would have expected you to be familiar with the concept. Merrim Webster defines ‘evacuee’ as ‘person evacuated from a place of danger’ extensive research needed? About 30 seconds.

  • Anonymous

Seriously you “researched the costume.”  Google World War 2 evacuee and you would know exactly what this costume is and why they make it (once you get past the pages linking to your moronic story).  You are either terrible at research or you never did any research.  I’m betting it’s the latter.

Why am I being such a jerk?  Well, your article just emphasizes how bad “journalism” has become.  Twenty years ago a journalist would know off the top of their head what this costume was and if they didn’t they would actually research.  It’s not only you, ABC, The Huffington Post, and others have all picked this up.  Instead of lying about research, why don’t you just issue an apology and retraction or are you just that self involved?

This article is so massively offensive because it proves that for so many The Holocaust has become a meme.  Instead of it being a tangible historical event that should be learned from it’s became an excuse to be offended.  It’s no longer about “never again” it’s about YOU.

troops the war would have gone on for much, much longer, becos the
Americans had to await delivery of the Coca Cola machines prior to any
    advance. “

Sir, your understanding of history is flawed at best.   All of the attacks on Americans for not knowing history, and all you read here is absolute false hoods and conjecture.  1.  United States of American entered WWII after Dec. 7, 1941 attacks of Pearl Harbor.  American had attempted to remain neutral, contrary to Pres. Roosevelt wishes. American was supplying its allies as always.  Which of course is what pushed the attack by Japan.  Using the pre-text of Pearl Harbor attack FDR moved the U .S to a war footing in his famous “Day of Infamy” speech, the US declared war on JAPAN.  Four days later Japan’s “allies” declared war on the US.  Not as much fun as your little rant, but the accurate events.   The suggest that the Russian Military was the reason the German’ s lost is interesting conjecture but seriously flawed.  First off the Russian “army” although improved under rapid industrialization of the1930′s.  They lacked the military aircraft and many other tactical advantages enjoyed by the German army.    Stalin had done a poor job preparing his country for war, as he was Hitler’s ally up until the sneak attack of Operation Barbarossa into Russia.  The Russian people deserve much credit for a fierce resistance, and the stand at Stalingrad is a legendary, though claiming victory thru attrition is certainly not a sign of strength.  The facts remain until the opening of a second front in Europe the German’s remained the superior force.  The USA entry into the war allowed the Allies to defeat two great evil powers in Japan and Germany.  Trying to give one side credit is waste of time. All the western allies deserve credit and benefited from this victory as well as the vanquished.  Marshall plan etc, etc, …….

    Oh also what is all the fuss about the costume.  Really?  Clear over reaction by people looking for an axe to grind.  Take care, signed;

    Dumb American

? lol my point was it was the Russians who as you say, turned the tide.
racist crap? where was that in my comment? oh- I get it- trying to stand up for our own actual history, perhaps reading all of it would have helped. I know I put something like ‘we’ve all done good and bad but let’s look at actual history.’
oh maybe I was racist stating the actual recorded fact that Australian and British women were taken prisoner, ( civilians and military ), by the Japanese, mistreated, harmed, raped and allowed to die or killed and then that our great friends America pushed for the Emperor to be treated differently to any other world leader who allowed that to happen, ( war crime ), and for no international criminal court action to be taken against him?
gee sorry about that then welsh andy. my welsh grandma and her relatives/extended friends etc countrymen who were mistreated applaud your self assumed righteousness.
Perhaps if you didn’t have your cranium in such close proximity to your colon you could see past your first reaction- that and if you lived in a country directly affected by Japanese war crimes, mate?
Anyway main point is- this is an evacuee dress, it is tiresome for those of us who have family who helped fight the Nazi and the Jap to be constantly bombarded by the ‘woe is me’ Jewish people, note- the ‘woe is me’ crowd- not all Jewish people of course, as many humans are lovely as there are crappy ones.
In closing, Andy, please find what I said that you think was racist, in it’s entirety, not cut nicely into a few words to suit your point. Basically- stop acting like the media that drives us all nuts and actually hear out what people have to say, in entirety, and at times, allow people to vent- as some of us feel that we and our family’s and our nation’s histories are just swept aside to make room for the noisiest bunch in the room.
Well done all the Allies back then for slapping those goofballs down- give credit where credit’s due and let’s all look to the future.

  • Azalea0915

Very balanced comment- but overlooks the fact that America did not ‘supply’ it’s allies- it made money off sales and loans to it’s allies.
The people? Fantastic on all sides who fought the scum, but the governments? As always they left a lot to be desired, but did what they thought best. :D We won- that’s the main thing eh- no bratwurst sushi at Xmas day lunch for Oz or the US lol :D
And yeah some ppl, me included, probably did over react to this story- but you don’t know how much it hurts us, ( outside the US ), to have our histories basically wiped out by Hollywood etc to make way for America saving the world brought to you by Disney etc. It also diminishes the true sacrifices that a lot of your people, the Americans made, because people just end up thinking nearly all of what America says about it’s contribution is b.s. I personally popped my lid because we in Australia seem to be totally forgotten, but we were there sweating, bleeding and dying in Nth Africa and Asia from about 1939.
I grew up with my grandpa who served so it can be quite hurtful- he personally never said a bad word about any of that, and to me that makes it all the more hurtful. We’re forgetting some beautiful human beings and thier sacrifice/contribution just because they were quiet, modest, and didn’t belong to one of the larger teams. I hope my pop would’ve fit in and done his best as an American, an Australian or whatever, but equally I hope that people like him should not be forgotten for, as I say, not belonging to one of the flashier teams. :D
    Take care, best wishes,
hopeful but sometimes hurt and many times Dumb Aussie.

My God. The lack of appropriate apology is even more offensive than the original post, not to mention the hurriedly thrust in third party explaination.

what is with the staff on this website that makes them unable to apologise… oh, and do anything resembling research?

I give up on these people and really, any other intelligent person should as well… because quite clearly, they are unable to do anything worth reading.

Just one further question… how on earth, did you get ‘Evacuee’ and ‘Refugee’ confused? In what world, does a Google search on ‘Evacuee’ not give you some information?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OJDMTAMN4SEHS6ERRH4F7WVBLE Kobi

HERE HERE!!! “Extensive” research my arse……rofl. Obviously, it is now the “norm” for people in the media to “ASSUME” and report, rather than take the time to actually read what the packaging says, and if in doubt, instead of simply looking up the term “evacuee” in the dictionary, make stupid comments about “yellow star”(s)……………it’s no wonder that people give no credence to what is “reported” in the media any longer, with all the so-called unbiased, “well researched” and fair and accurate “reporting”.

This sort of Ignorance should be shameful, you have admitted doing no research, whilst writing a very emotional, opinionated, personal article. The writer and Editor should honestly think about changing career, poor effort, lack of professionalism, and in an age of such communication, whereby we may all be “the media” please try, for the sake of humanity to not just put out misinformation.

What’s really disturbing is the absorption of everything that’s WW2 by jewish groups or individuals without even bothering to look up what it’s all about.
On a side note, I wonder if “beauty-&-lifestyle”-bloggers like Ms. Rubin would have been so upset about a costume that’s called “WW2 Dresden bomb raid victim” or “dead palestinian kid”…

  • Me

I think that the people of the world are just to sensitive and brainwashed by all the political correct zombies. You think that any that fought in world war 2 would be so happy to see millions complain today because someone said something that hurt their feelings? My grandfather was in the US Navy and served in Leyte, Philippines. I live on Saipan and everyday I see leftovers from that last world war. There are bombs grenades all manner of explosives on this island and you can not enter a cave without finding bones of either japanese soldiers or japanese civilians still to this day. all this fighting over a costume….? When did the average inteligence of the world revert back to kindergarten?

  • katya lector

I agree too. This is a costume evoking the actual evacuation of children from London (and other major cities) to the countryside during the Blitz when Germany was bombing them every night. You can see that there were trace of  world war 2 everywhere, family who lost their loved ones, veterans. and etc.
