PHOTOS: The Worst Dressed Ladies At The Critics’ Choice Awards

We know, we know — Elle Fanning landing on a Worst Dressed list sounds nearly impossible, but her tablecloth Chanel dress really missed the mark tonight at the Critics’ Choice Awards. Unfortunately, she’s not alone. Let’s break down some of the looks.

Fanning loves wearing quirky, borderline costume-y ensembles, and she seemed to have a lot of fun on tonight’s red carpet, but the strapless Chanel frock was everything short of amazing. Even though the strapless floral gown had cool pockets, the print, embroidery, and shapeless silhouette were just unflattering on the 14-year-old. Even worse were the shoes, which were metallic Mary Janes with several straps. It’s almost as if Karl wanted Fanning to land on this list.

Another surprising star to land on the list is Amanda Seyfried, whose Marios Schwab dress was just too busy. The lace top was pretty, and so was the color, but the top paired with the pleated asymmetrical bottom was too much look. Famke Janssen‘s navy John Galliano gown was also bit of a mess. The sheer side cut-outs and the cascade of ruffles seemed like a something a contestant on Project Runway would create — and then get auf’d for designing.

See those looks, and more bad ones below:

Truth told to what you said re: Amanda, Famke, and Elle (I can’t believe it either).

But what exactly was so objectionable about Jessica Chastain’s Prada? Or Leslie Mann in Honor? Katie Aselton and Kerry Bishe looked fab by any standards.

Especially for the unknowns, these are people’s and stylists’ careers on the line, not just looks you add to round off a list to ten. If this is the worst you can find, that makes this year’s CCA among the best-, not worst-dressed years.

Thanks for asking! Chastain’s Prada and Bishe’s Roland dresses were boring and relatively safe compared to other looks on the red carpet, Mann’s Honor frock was ill-fitting and did no justice to her figure, and Aselton’s look was too casual for the event.

Thanks for explaining–to each their own, I guess. I just can’t think “boring and relatively safe” is bad for the deep end of the badly-dressed pond–if that were the case, neither Kate nor Mobama should be a fashion industry darling.
