Jamaican Sprinter Runs With A $500K Watch, Could Get In Trouble For It

Usain Bolt may still be the Jamaican runner that’s on everyone’s radar, but it looks like Yohan Blake is getting some attention — and not just for his athleticism. The International Olympic Committee is more concerned about Blake’s $500,000 custom-made timepiece by luxury watchmaker Richard Mille.

Athletes are supposed to wear clothes from sponsors, which is obvious from all the logoed gear that they sport. The same rule applies to accessories, and Omega is the Olympics’s official timekeeper — not Richard Mille. Blake, who won the silver medal in the 100 meter race, is now being investigated on whether or not he broke the Olympic rules in regards to donning items that aren’t official sponsors of the Games.

Olympic regulations aside, this watch is pretty sick. The lightweight timepiece was made in a black/green/yellow colorway as a nod to the hues of the Jamaican flag. The watch is reportedly not being mass produced until after the Olympics are over this weekend due to the IOC’s endorsement rules, and Blake will also reportedly be Mille’s spokesperson through 2013.

how is he able to set the stopwatch feature, run 100 meters and then stop the timer … all in 9.71 seconds ??!!!!

who cares, and besides, 500K for the watch is bullshit, nobody knows Richard Mille except collectors and why would he wear unless he’s getting a big check for the free advertising. ignore, ignore, ignore.

he should pawn it and give the proceeds to the homeless (like me), like in person, since these organizations sometimes swindle the money… not to set a rule though, that people can’t have gifts, but something’s downright unethical about this

  • Carlossee’ Santiago

My only question is why does he have finger nails like a woman?  That is some gross stuff.

LOL!  These people have no sense whatsoever.

Are they complaining because it’ s not a sponsor accessory or because of the price? Sanya Richards-Ross had Chanel earrings in when she won her gold, don’t hear anyone complaining about that! Who cares, it’s his money, if he wants to live like he has half a million to waste on a watch….his life.  It is also a well known fact that jewellers lend pieces to create a buzz and promote their things, how do we know this is not the case here?

It is his watch and probably a gift from the maker.  So?

Couldn’t cost $500,000. No way, that’s just hype! Maybe $200-$300 at the most.

    its a jamaican thing

  • GUESSWHO

listen, this watch is not even among the top 5 most expensive watch brands in the world. However, of course the maker gave it to him – he didn’t spend his own cash on the watch, like Hublot gave D Wade and Usain Bolt watches inspired by them. The Olympic wants to only feature products that r official sponsors of the games and not just sponsors of the athletes, though they have a rule that governs the more established athletes and other rules for the ‘less – er’ athlete. Let’s not hold our breaths for the result in this case.
