Teen Prostitute Turned Lingerie Designer Sees Aging As A Betrayal
Zahia Dehar‘s story — leaving underage prostitution in France behind to launch a couture lingerie line — is one for the books, but in an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Dehar admits she shares the same fear as women the world over: aging.
The interview rehashes Dehar’s 2010 underage prostitution scandal involving three high-profile French
footballers soccer players. The piece points out that Dehar is reluctant to bring up “the past,” and that she tears up at the very mention of “old clients,” which, while understandable, is too bad for the reader, given that her past is what makes her story so fascinating.
Nonetheless, Dehar has since made a name for herself in the industry — befriending designers like Karl Lagerfeld, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Christian Louboutin, schmoozing with fashion editors at New York Fashion Week, and the like. Despite it all, the polished, youthful designer fears facing herself decades down the road:
“Right now I look at [a small sculpture of her body given to guests at her fall 2012 show] and then in the mirror, and I see the same thing. But I imagine myself at 80, when my body has betrayed me, looking at it, all alone.”
Guess you just can’t win ‘em all.
