Okay, in truth, this teacher was fired for messing up a handful of seemingly basic sixth grade teaching skills, such as demonstrating knowledge of sixth grade math concepts. BUT WHO NEEDS MORE #BASIC SIXTH GRADERS, AMIRITE?
The real injustice here is that Miss Nicki Turner was fired for exposing her students to “Drunk in Love” in the classroom. Admittedly, it’s been a minute since any of us have attended a middle school dance (but O, did we spend some time as a group reminiscing about the first kisses shared there!). But aren’t they playing Honey Bey at said dances? Aren’t students being #exposed to concepts more explicit that waking up in the kitchen wondering how the hell did this shit happen while doing things like — oh we don’t know — tuning in to this Sunday’s MTV VMAs?
According to the Atlanta school district responsible for firing Turner: “This song contained profanity, vulgarity, and sexually explicit lyrics..This song is not [in] alignment with Teacher Keys Standard 9, Professionalism.”
Right, but this song also contains a rousing endorsement of getting drunk on love, man…sort of.
