On September 20, those of us who couldn’t afford tickets to see Beyonce and Jay Z’s “On the Run” tour live will be able to watch their concert thanks to a television special (assuming, you know, that you can afford HBO).
And while “concert specials” tend not to be that exciting, this isn’t just any special we’re talking about. We’re dealing with Bey and Jay. We’re dealing with Bey and Jay amid countless divorce rumors. But if that’s still not enough to make you curious about the special, this trailer might.
Now, the trailer shows Beyonce singing a cover of Nancy Sinatra‘s “Bang Bang.” Not a very happy song. With lyrics like “He shot me down,” “Now he’s gone I don’t know why,” and “He didn’t take the time to lie,” that choice of song could perhaps allude to (or confirm) some drama in their marriage. Or at least, that may be what they want us to think.
In reality, it’s probably just keeping in with the “Bonnie and Clyde” theme their tour has had since it’s own epic trailer came out last May. Either way, it’s got me excited enough about the special that I just might text a wealthier friend and ask to use their HBO next month when the 20th rolls around.
