In Business of Fashion’s recent profile of Lynn Yaeger, the unorthodox fashion journalist revealed that she and her dear friend, Paper’s Mickey Boardman are often taken aback at how far they’ve come from their humble beginnings. “We’re both kind of astonished at our success in the fashion world — I’m from Massapequa and he’s from some town in Illinois,” she explained. It got us thinking about industry figures who weren’t born into a life of privilege, or even near the gridded streets and glittering lights of the world’s fashion capitals.
