A rainy day has become all the more grim with the news that one of our favorite stylists, Annabel Tollman, has passed away at age 36. Tollman died in her sleep last night in her West Village apartment due to a blood clot, sources have confirmed to The Cut.
The British stylist, who has described her approach to fashion as, “Make a fairy tale and go and live in it,” and often marked her work with a touch of Old Hollywood glamour, styled such A-list stars as Scarlett Johansson, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Mariah Carey, and Liv Tyler. In 2003, she became Interview’s first-ever fashion director until she left in 2008 to pursue fulltime styling. At the time of her death, she had a reality TV show with Bravo in the works.
The fashion community is stunned by the loss, and has been sharing personal thoughts and stories about Annabel on social media all day.
“She was smart, vivacious, and glamorous beyond explanation,” wrote Erika Bearman on the OscarPRGirl Tumblr. “She was brave, and funny, and i was so in awe. Over the years we became friends, though I don’t believe I ever lost the wide-eyed look of admiration i had for Annabel from the first day.”
Derek Blasberg posted on Facebook that, “Annabel Tollman was one of the first people I met when I moved to New York. I was in college and I was young and silly and ambitious.” Adding, “She was sweet and smart and drop dead sexy. She was till the end.”
In honor of Tollman, we’ve dug into the archives and found our 10 favorite covers and editorials that have that distinct Annabel touch. While she’s certainly left her mark on the industry, the young star will be missed.
