Italian designer Alberta Ferretti is stepping away from her Philosophy di Alberta line, and has handed it to Natalie Ratabesi, a Central Saint Martins alum, and Polo Ralph Lauren‘s former senior creative director.
Ferretti started her high-end eponymous line in 1980 and created Philosophy, which is geared towards a younger audience, four years later. The decision to hand the reins over to Ratabesi was an organic one, and Ferretti explains in a statement:
“I felt that the time had come to give Philosophy a more independent and autonomous vision, allowing me to dedicate myself entirely to the Alberta Ferretti collection and other related projects. I am confident that Natalie, with her femininity and boundless energy, will best express the fundamental spirit of the Philosophy collection.”
Ratabesi will make her Philosophy debut at the fall 2013 shows in February, and it sounds like her previous stints at Christian Dior, Gucci, Oscar de la Renta, Valentino, and Ralph Lauren have prepared her for this next step. Ratabesi feels quite honored for the opportunity, and says:
“I have always marveled at Alberta Ferretti’s enduring aesthetic, her clean and contemporary elegance, and it is my desire to project Philosophy’s unique, timeless style and effortless femininity, which have always distinguished the brand, into the future.”
