Alexa Chung Doesn’t Mind That We All Try To Copy Her Look

MyTheresa.com is no longer just your destination for blowing a paycheck on a whim or doing harmless virtual window shopping. The luxe e-commerce site has launched a new portrait and film series, in which they profile famous It girls, who share their coveted style advice. We weren’t at all surprised to see that their first episode stars none other than Alexa Chung, who is just about as ‘It’ as it gets, from her brains to her sartorial brawn. In fact, Susanne Botschen, MyTheresa’s founder, was incredibly struck by Chung’s grace, humor, and knack for choosing the perfect shoe to pair with her Christopher Kane dress, when they first met earlier this year.

We sipped our morning coffee, watched the video, and began taking notes, and the short confirmed what we already knew: just about everything she says resonates with us (especially the shopping part). In addition to sharing her philosophical outlook on style, the TV host, writer, DJ, and model (Chung supposes she is one), also cuts a rug for the camera.

On her style philosophy:

“If I need to be strong. If I’m interviewing someone that’s difficult then I wear more masculine, tailored things, where as if I’m feeling more feminine and girly, it’s nice to wear a dress. It really is that simple.”

On why there’s nothing wrong with copying someone else’s look:

“I don’t think it matters where you get your style ideas from, it’s how you put it together. Inherently, if you are emulating someone’s style it’s going to be different because you have a different attitude, face and haircut. I’m definitely very focused on the Sixties, that music scene.”

On why she loves shopping:

“I am a shopaholic. I don’t know, there’s something about the process of feeling like you’re collecting a gem I really enjoy. The way I shop is kind of instinctive, but also impulsive. I play different characters and that’s why I like clothes.”

Head over to Vogue U.K. to watch the video, and brace yourself, as your girl crush will inevitably reach full throttle.
