The fashion industry isn’t for the faint of heart, and if there’s one thing we’ve come to expect, it’s a ceaseless stream of quotables that will either make us chortle, gawk, or in some rare cases spit-take our Starbucks (we can usually thank Karl Lagerfeld for that). See who said what to get our Twitter feeds humming this week:
1.Karl Lagerfeld sounded off on German chancellor Angela Merkel’s pants:
“Miss Merkel [should dress] according to her special proportions… [with Obama], the proportions were bad, like the cut. The pants were too long.”
2. Alexa Chung is most creative when she’s hungover.
During a café meeting with the founders of Eyeko, with whom she is collaborating on a beauty line, she came up with “at least 50″ ideas after getting drunk the night before. “Maybe it was the hangover, but my head was loosened up,” she explained.
Hey, it worked for Hemingway.
3. Amanda Seyfried told GQ about aspirations of creating a Les Mis porn:
When asked which of her former films would work best for a porn parody, she said:
“Ooh, I think Les Mis would be a really good porn parody. Ah, that would be amazing! In fact Hugh [Jackman] and I [created] this parallel relationship that our characters had where they were sexually active. There was a lot of sexual tension between his daughter and him – we made fun of that. We made it fun because live singing is just a pickle.”
4. According to her personal trainer Tracy Anderson, Gwyneth Paltrow has a ‘long butt’:
Anderson told Into the Gloss about helping Paltrow lose the post-baby weight:
“She had 35 extra pounds on her. Her butt was long and she had outer thigh problems. Gwyneth is lucky because she’s really tall, so she can hide it really well in clothes, but she had significant problem areas. I felt so badly for her, and thought I could really help.”
5. Competing for the top spot on the pop charts has apparently turned Lady Gaga and Katy Perry into the best of friends. After making Ryan Seacrest look as if he made out with a clown, Gaga told him:
“I was really bothered by the media pitting me and Katy Perry against each other because look, we both just happened to want to put our singles out wihtin a week of each other. And it’s not necessarily convenient for everyone and may be a little bit awkward … But we don’t need to force feed this negativity in to it until everyone explodes it just turns it in to a competition … and I really like Katy Perry and respect everyone in this industry because it was really hard for me to get here and I’m sure it wasn’t easy for her to get where she is, so I just wanted to put an end to it.”
6. Johnny Depp’s girlfriend Amber Heard opened up about being bisexual to ELLE:
“I didn’t want to look like I was hiding anything,” she said. “I’m not, and wasn’t ever, ashamed.”
She also has no interest in becoming a romcom mainstay:
“I try to play characters who are somehow empowered or strong. People want to put me in a wedding dress and make me the object of affection, but I’d much rather shoot the gun and save the world. I’ve always fought against what was expected of me as much as I could.”
7. Cara Delevingne has psoriasis and got advice from Kate Moss. She told W:
“It only happened during Fashion Week! Which is, of course, the worst time of the year for me to be covered in scabs. Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease, and I’m sensitive. Kate [Moss] saw me before the Louis Vuitton show at 3 a.m., when I was being painted by people to cover the scabs. She said, ‘This is horrible! Why is this happening? I need to help you.’ She got me a doctor that afternoon; Kate gives really good advice.”
