What pièce de résistance do Mary-Kate Olsen, Nicole Richie, and Keith Richards all have in common? The iconic skull-print scarf by Alexander McQueen that was all the rage when it first debuted as part of the designer’s Spring 2003 collection and 10 years later has shown remarkable staying power (this due in part to a revival upon McQueen’s death in 2010).
To mark the style’s decade-long anniversary, the British fashion house has enlisted skull-enthusiast Damien Hirst to design 30 limited-edition scarves. The designs will not only feature the emblematic skull insignia, but also have the artist’s kaleidoscopic ‘Entomology’ series (pictured above), which features butterflies, spiders, and other critters of the creepy crawly variety. Priced at $476.50 at the current exchange, the special edition styles cost a pretty penny more then the originals, and will be available in chiffon, pongé, twill, and cashmere.
According to WWD, the exclusive designs will be available in McQueen boutiques and at alexandermcqueen.com beginning in mid-November. While we’re a little glum these babies won’t be part of our fashion week repertoire, they’ll be ready just in time for the holiday season, which means family, friends, and lovers best be ready to ante up.
