We saw some images from the Met‘s upcoming Alexander McQueen Costume Institute exhibit back in February, and now we have even more to show you. The Cut got their hands on a copy of the catalog for Savage Beauty, and, yes, it’s stunning.
The exhibit opens on May 4th — that’s less than a month away! The photos below have more than whet our appetite for what is sure to be a blockbuster show, full of McQueen’s most iconic pieces. And as anxious as we are to see the clothes, we’re just as excited to read the exhibit’s accompanying texts. The catalog includes, among other things, an interview Tim Blanks conducted with Sarah Burton. This is what she had to say about his final show:
“With ‘Plato’s Atlantis’, Lee mastered how to weave, engineer, and print any digital image onto a garment so that all the pattern pieces matched up with the design on every seam. That was the difficulty with the collection that followed. Where do you take it? He wanted to talk about the craftsmanship, about the old techniques that are being lost, and how people don’t do things with their hands anymore.”
Check out the slideshow below. Will you be first in line at the Met?
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
