E! News reports that Jolie chose to open the school outside of Kabul because of its high refugee population and because it was was traditionally an area that favored boys’ education over girls’. The school currently has 200 to 300 female students, so take that, dudes.
The Tomb Raider actress is supporting the school, which was completed last year, with all the proceeds from her Style of Jolie line, a jewelry collection she co-designed with her engagement ring creator Robert Procop. The super expensive line launched a few years ago, but was never in retail stores — until now (well, kind of). For some inexplicable reason, the line is being sold at Tivol, a jewelry store in Kansas City, Missouri. Not that we have anything against Missouri, but uh, what an interesting place to sell high-end jewelry. Nonetheless, Jolie is doing an amazing thing, and has plans to build more schools.
