As it turns out, Nicki Minaj wasn’t just casually seated next to Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour during fashion week: Wintour went out of her way to get the singer her highly publicized front-row seats.
The two were spotted sitting next to each other at both Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta, where Minaj’s security team let us get close enough to snap a picture of the burgeoning rapper. While some thought Wintour was turning her nose up at the indignity of being seated next to Minaj, in her knockoff puff ball garb, but she was actually quite pleased. So pleased that she sent Minaj a memento of their brief time together.
The singer … explained that Wintour personally invited her to the Herrera show and later sent Minaj an inscribed photo of the two watching the fashion promenade. “We match!” wrote Wintour, apparently referring to the fact they’d both worn patterned attire.
How sweet. So what does this mean for Wintour and Minaj? Well, the last time Wintour got someone a seat next to her at a fashion show, that person got a spread in Vogue and a collaboration with a major designer. We refer, of course, to Amar’e Stoudemire, who was featured playing basketball with Hamish Bowles in the April issue of Vogue, and is looking forward to a line with Rachel Roy.
Will Minaj get the same deal? Well, we sort of hope not — we don’t find her particularly stylish, but we suppose Grace Coddington and the stylists at Vogue could fluff her up a bit and make her look … not as ridiculous as she normally does. As for a clothing line, well, let’s just hope nobody gets ripped off if Anna makes that happen.
