Apple Won’t Let You Engrave “Vagina” On an iPad, But “Penis” Is A-OK

The world’s most progressive technology company thinks female anatomy words are bad.

Apple will gladly engrave “dick” or “penis” on your iPad, but they won’t honor any requests for “vagina” or “clit.”

Feminist blogger Justyn Hintze tried to get “clit” engraved in an iPad on apple.com, but here’s what popped on the screen: ”This message may contain inappropriate language. Please call 1-800–MY-APPLE.” The same thing happened for “vagina,” but “dick” and “penis” got the all-clear.

“My hypothesis was correct: the reason I cannot use the word clit is because Apple is so entrenched with sexism and misogyny, and frankly, is terrified of women’s bodies and women’s pleasure,” Hintze wrote in a post yesterday.

This was the language Hintze wanted engraved (lyrics from an Alix Olson song):

“I’ll give myself a lube job,
shake my broomstick til my clit throbs”

In that same context, both “penis” and “dick” got through Apple’s screening when substituted for “clit,” but “vagina” didn’t.

When Hintze spoke with a customer service rep at Apple, the employee had the same results over the phone, and according to Hintze, she “explicitly noted the sexism, but said there was nothing she could do.” It’s a double standard that’s too in your face to ignore. Apple, get down with the clit, bro.
