Are Bland Brands Making A Comeback?

When Jenna Lyons began climbing the corporate ladder at J. Crew, we saw a complete resurgence of the brand’s cool factor. Everyone from the stylish girl down the street to Michelle Obama began wearing chunky crystal necklaces and sequin cardigans paired with preppy classics like khaki work shorts or the perfect black straight leg slack.

J. Crew became the company to watch for its affordability and unexpected fashion forwardness. And since then, we’ve had our eye on a couple of other brands that we think on their way to greatness. At one point, each of these companies were wildly successful in one arena or another. But for some reason, said brands got stuck. Thankfully, with the help of some fresh young designers and corporate executives with open minds, they’ve seen a great rejuvenation — and some of them will surprise you.
