Yesterday while you were trying to decide whether to love or hate that custom Versace liturgical robe Nicki Minaj wore to the Grammys, the good people of Great Britain were hosting the British Academy of Film and Television Awards — and stars like Meryl Streep, Viola Davis and Penelope Cruz got all gussied up for the occasion.
And while the BAFTAs might not be considered a huge deal on this side of the Atlantic, they’re still make for an interesting red carpet. Academy Award nominee Michelle Williams was there in a custom strapless gown from H&M (H&M!), while Penelope Cruz donned an Armani Prive dress with a sculpted neckline. Elizabeth McGovern, who plays Lady Cora Grantham on Downton Abbey, wore a Solange Azagury-Partridge dress adorned with black rosettes. (Should you wish not to see her as anyone other than Lady Grantham, we suggest you avoid slide three below.) Then there was Miss Piggy, who got outfitted in custom Louis Vuitton for the occasion — and how Marc Jacobs pulled that off right in the middle of Fashion Week, we have no idea.
Like most of the red carpets we’ve seen this season, the BAFTAs weren’t grade-A exciting, but no one looked particularly bad, either. Take a look at the slideshow below and tell us who you think was best dressed.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
