Bernard Arnault? That’ll be Sir Bernard Arnault to you pretty soon, as WWD reports that the French tycoon is set to become a Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for his “services to business and the wider community in the U.K.”
The chairman and CEO of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, who also just so happens to be France’s richest man, has been under fire in his home country recently after he applied for Belgian citizenship not long after a plan was announced that would levy a 75% income tax on individuals making €1 million or more. Arnault staunchly maintains that he plans to maintain fiscal residency in France, and is in the midst of a legal battle with the paper Libération, who plastered a photo of the billionaire on their cover under the headline “Casse-toi riche con!” (A more vulgar translation of “Get lost, rich idiot!”)
In the UK, however, Arnault will be honored with an OBE, and is reportedly be the only French national to be awarded the title this year.
