Big Pony Fragrance: Where Food And Fashion Intersect

In case you missed our tweets about it, a few weeks ago we attended a dinner party hosted by Ralph Lauren in honor of their new men’s fragrance collection, Big Pony.

We’ll be honest, while we attended the dinner, it wasn’t out of curiosity about the fragrances — though those certainly lived up to the hype — it was because the invite called it a “Tastemakers Dinner” and said it would feature “cocktails and a 4-course dinner inspired by the 4 new fragrances.”

Four course dinner? Cocktails? We were in. And by the end of it: stuffed.

The menu, created by Wes Martin and Food & Wine’s Sarah Simmons was, in a word, awesome. From oysters — of which we ate about four times our fair share — to roasted corn ravioli, followed by a chocolate-dusted short rib tarte and topped off with a delightfully refreshing ginger semifreddo. We’re hardly perfume connoisseurs, so we can’t really speak to what flavor went with what scent, but we can tell you that it all tasted good.

And for a fashion-y event, the guestlist was surprisingly varied. Attendees included fellow Ite Site-er Rachel Sklar, The New York TimesJenna Wortham — with whom we posed for what may go down as the world’s most awkward photo featuring an oversized perfume bottle, but that’s neither here nor there, Guest of a Guest’s Rachelle Hruska, Fashion 2.0’s Yuli Ziv, Hot Potato’s Justin Shaffer, CNBC’s John Carney, Thrillist’s Ben Lerer, and Fashism’s Brooke Moreland.
