Kerry Campbell, the San Francisco mother who injected her 8-year-old daughter Britney’s face with Botox of dubious provenance, got down on her knees and begged for forgiveness from the world just days after Britney was taken out of her custody.
Campbell told The Sun newspaper in a highly dramatic interview that she is profoundly sorry for what she’s done, and now realizes that giving a young child anti-aging treatments and bikini waxes was just plain wrong. This, of course, is a major shift from a few days ago, when she unapologetically defended her actions by saying she was just trying to give her daughter a leg up in the world. Campbell wanted her daughter to do well in beauty pageants and someday be a superstar model or actress. The treatments were supposed to help ensure Britney’s natural beauty endured.
But things got ugly Monday when Child Protective Services took Britney away from her mother. Now Campbell is determined to get her daughter back. She told The Sun:
“I now realise that what I was doing was wrong. By concentrating on Britney’s looks I was ignoring the things that were more important, like her being a normal child. The entire world hates me but I will fight to get my daughter back. I have been hounded and become a hate figure, which I probably deserve. But I want to take this opportunity to apologise to the world for my mistake. I vow never to give her Botox again.”
Campbell also vowed to get help for her obsession with looks “so I will no longer push my insecurities about appearance on to her.”
Whether or not that will be enough to convince CPS to let Britney live with Campbell again remains to be seen.
