Brian Atwood Plays Coy About His Banned Footwear Ads

Eleven years after starting his eponymous footwear line, shoe guru Brian Atwood finally set up shop on New York’s famed Madison Avenue in late August. He threw a star-studded fete last Wednesday, and we caught up with the designer who chatted about opening the new store, played coy about the banned ads, and divulged his own shoe preference.

Between doling out kisses and hugs to the likes of Rachel Roy, Heidi Klum, and Rachel Zoe, Atwood told us that Madison Avenue is the place to be. “There’s never been a better time to be on Madison — such an iconic shopping destination in New York City,” he said.

The store itself is a little over 1,400 square feet and houses Atwood’s line of shoes and handbags, and his diffusion footwear line B Brian Atwood. The interiors have an Old Hollywood vibe, and he told us: “I wanted to create this chic haven where beauty encompasses you from the moment you walk in. It has a very salon feeling to it.”

Of course, we had to asked about the banned porn-y ads. He simply winked and said: “It got banned?”

While Atwood certainly loves a lady in heels (“My job is to make women feel a complete state of glamour when they slip on a Brian Atwood shoe and the higher the heel, the better!”), he personally opts for classic Gucci loafers and Adidas Stan Smiths. Now you know!
