If the first looks to come out of the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival are any indication, we’re in for a real treat from the French Riviera — albeit a rather monochromatic one.
Carey Mulligan and Nicole Kidman stepped out for Day One photocalls, the former for the Great Gatsby and the latter for her role on the festival’s jury, and both seem to have had similar thoughts when it came to their debut ensembles. Mulligan wore a black Balenciaga jumpsuit with a half-moon, shoulder-highlighting neckline, making this the second time this month she’s donned Alexander Wang’s first collection for the house. Kidman opted for a sculpted number by a Paris mainstay, although hers was a dress from Alexander McQueen (told ya so) paired with wine-colored Jimmy Choo pumps and a ribbon-tied coif.
On the other side of the black-white spectrum were Gatsby’s Isla Fisher and Cannes’ Mistress of Ceremonies Audrey Tautou, who both chose girlish frocks fit for a stroll in the sunny South of France.
