Confession has always come naturally to Cat Marnell, who was, among other things, a former editor of xoJane, the famously honest-to-the-point-of-discomfort women’s health and beauty website. Now the sordid details of her life will be available in a new forum: Marnell has landed a lucrative book deal with Simon & Schuster to write her memoirs, which have the cheery working title How to Murder Your Life.
The topic of discussion? The recreational drug activities that both fueled her rise through the ranks of Conde Nast, and that allegedly ultimately contributed to her getting fired from xoJane. She’s famously copped in the past to her preference for “smoking angel dust with [her] friends” in favor of holding down a permanent job, and her stints in rehab for prescription drug abuse are as much a facet of her professional personality as her written work.
Marnell’s advance was reportedly $500,000, which the official S&S spokesperson will not confirm. No word yet either on when the book will hit shelves, but we’ll keep you posted. If anything, it’s sure to be a juicy read.
