It’s rare to see stars wear anything from last season, which is why Cate Blanchett looked so refreshing (and not to mention va-va-voom) in Armani Privé from the designer’s spring 2009 collection at the AACTA Awards in Sydney, Australia on Tuesday.
Blanchett is definitely one of the more fashion-forward celebs out there, and can always be counted on to choose some unexpected red carpet wares. Her four-year-old gown, however, didn’t look outdated on the red carpet, and the sequins, bold shoulder, and black trim all worked in the statuesque actress’ favor. Save for the black dangly earrings, Blanchett smartly avoided any accessories that might’ve made her look tacky and gaudy.
Nicole Kidman looked unimpressive in a strapless lemon Erdem Moralioglu frock that didn’t particularly excite us, while Kate Mara‘s Peter Som dress was super pretty, but could’ve used a different belt to break it up.

this is some kind of spaceship or something.
