We love Cate Blanchett‘s willingness to get a little weird on the red carpet. Who else would have dared to wear that insanely gorgeous yet slightly diseased-looking Givenchy couture gown to the Oscars? Even when we aren’t totally crazy about her look, we still applaud the ingenuity.
So we’re thrilled to see the Hobbit actress stepping out in Dubai this week for the city’s 9th Annual Film Festival — especially since her ensembles have so far fallen been total slam dunks.
Yesterday, Blanchett hit the red carpet in a look from Rodarte‘s Spring 2013 collection, fittingly inspired by fantasy role-playing games. The short sleeves, lilac hue, and floor-sweeping hem were a little reminiscent of the aforementioned Oscars dream dress, but what set this gown apart were the unusual copper panels corseting Cate’s waist.
Today the actress emerged in another hot-off-the-runway getup, this time a Peter Pilotto top from his spring collection, although she eschewed the psychedelic pants shown on the catwalk in favor of a trim black skirt. Well played, since with its crosshatched sleeves, peplum, and Lite Brite-esque beadwork, the top had quite enough going on as it is (and we mean that in the best possible way).

this is some kind of spaceship or something.
