Cate Blanchett Wore Matronly Sequins to the Monument Men Premiere

In light of recent controversies and the nature of the film she’s promoting, you can’t really blame Cate Blanchett for wanting to scale back on the bright colors and flirty details. But the real life elf queen doesn’t do things by halves, and showed up to last night’s Monument Men premiere in what is probably going to prove quite the opinion-divider: A midi-length, turtleneck Proenza Schouler dress completely covered in sequins that more closely resemble metal studs.

We don’t think we’ve ever used ‘sequins’ and ‘matronly’ in the same sentence, but this is its own breed of dress. We can’t tell if it’s growing on us or just simply growing before our eyes, swallowing, engulfing her sylphlike frame. We do appreciate the slick side-bun she’s paired it with, and her makeup is truly delightful. So there’s that. Hopefully she’s just conserving sartorial energy for next month’s Oscars.
