We love a good year end list because of how handily they remind us of all the things that made this particular year great — but sometimes they let us know about things we missed altogether. Such is the case with New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn‘s year in fashion roundup, which includes a photo of L’Uomo Vogue editor Giovanna Battaglia looking stunning at the Cannes Film Festival.
Maybe we weren’t paying close attention because, you know, there were other things going on, but we’re glad Horyn pointed out this dress. We’d love to wax poetic about this dress and Battaglia’s curves and styling, but we figure that’s a job probably left best to Horyn:
What a dress, what a woman! Ms. Battaglia’s vintage Stephen Sprouse gown seemed a delirious cut-and-paste job; the men’s blazer worn over her shoulders and the goddess pony tail were a nice finishing touch from a stylist with glamour shooting out of her eyeballs. Her outfit completely killed the rest of the red-carpet looks for the year.
And hey — maybe that’s why no one reported on this look in particular: to give the other red carpet looks of the year a fighting chance.
Take a look at the dress below, and check out the other things Horyn liked (and seriously disliked) about the year in fashion here.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
