Chanel likes to tout itself as the kind of brand that spans the generational divide; that a 20-year-old can pair with motorcycle boots and a dash of insouciance while her 70-year-old grandmother dons head-to-toe and tops off with a fresh set of pearls. And while this kind of thing usually reverberates as PR speak, in the case of Chanel, it couldn’t be more true.
Case in point: the motley assortment of women at last night’s dinner party in Milan celebrating “The Little Black Jacket”, Karl Lagerfeld’s photography book and exhibition. Society ladies, editors, and pretty young things alike broke out their best interlocking Cs for the fête, from Anna Dello Russo’s spring runway look and matching cap, to Elizabeth Olsen’s goth-y lace mini and occasion-appropriate leather topper. The only one who didn’t look like they could very well be a brand ambassador? That one lady in the strapless dress who appeared to have wandered in from a Roberto Cavalli fête. Whoops.
