Postcards From St. Tropez: Karl And Co. Are Having a Ball

Karl Lagerfeld is nothing if not a genius at generating buzz and — with his models set to storm the runways of St. Tropez in a matter of hours — the rumors certainly are swirling. Unfortunately, we can’t confirm or deny any of it, because sadly — very, very sadly — our invitation to frolic with the Kaiser in the south of France seems to have gotten lost in the mail.

Oh, what we would all give to be lounging on a monogrammed Chanel towel, drinking champagne beach side. Instead we’re stuck here in New York, left to live vicariously through photo-blogger Garance Dore’s insanely enviable snaps from last night’s pre-party. She writes:

What a crazy atmosphere yesterday at the Place des Lices. A real “pétanque” contest had been organised, and everybody was taking it very seriously. Diane Kruger was jumping everywhere, Vanessa Paradis was totally focused, and Elisa Sednaoui was speaking french then italian then english to make herself clear with her team.

Forget buzz, Karl is nothing if not a genius at making us curse our lives and turn various shades of green with envy. How we wish Garance (or perhaps her accomplice Mr. Schumann) had managed to snap a rumor-confirming shot of alleged models Crystal Renn or Georgia May Jagger. Though she did let it slip that she was on a team with Olivier Zahm, André and Laetita Crahay. “We were playing against Leigh Lezark, Caroline Sieber and… I dont’ remember whom, it was such a happy mess!” We sigh again.

Well, like everyone else in the world — we’ll just have to glue ourselves to our computers and wait and see. But until then, these photos should help take the edge off.

P.S. And to the winners go the spoils….via Derek Blasberg we hear Leigh and her all-American crew ended up winning in the wee hours.
