Christian Louboutin should thank his red soles for carrying him through the recession. WWD reports that the designer told Vanity Fair’s May issue his business doubled in 2009 and that he sells more than 340,000 pairs of shoes a year — which, with prices starting at $495, is certainly nothing to sniff at.
As for his customers, Louboutin says that his regulars buy “dozens” of shoes a year, but they’re all put to shame by a certain novelist known as Danielle Steele.
[His] “supertop customer” is author Danielle Steel, who reportedly has at least 6,000 pairs, if not more. “She comes to Paris, and she literally buys everything. Then she flies back to New York, says, ‘I’m a little disappointed — there’s nothing in the store,’ and walks out with 80 pairs,” [Louboutin] grinned. “She is super.”
