We may have been preoccupied with the theatrical shoulder flourish on Christina Hendricks‘s red Romona Keveza gown at the Golden Globes, but the real drama had to do with her borrowed Chopard jewels. At some point during her red carpet tour of duty, Hendricks lost one of the two bracelets she wore to the awards. The cost of the piece? $850,000. Yikes.
The Mad Men star didn’t notice she was missing a bauble until minutes before the show was scheduled to start, so she made a beeline out of the auditorium while everyone was taking their seats. Lucky for her, the bracelet was found and the relieved actress made her way back inside. Unlucky for her, she didn’t realize she couldn’t get the bracelet back on until she was already seated at her table.
What’s a girl to do when she’s trying really hard not to lose a 124-carat diamond bracelet? Beg a security guard to let her leave the ballroom and give the expensive piece of jewelry to her publicist who is stationed outside, even though nobody’s allowed to exit or enter the room once the show has started. It probably helped that Hendricks was stashing the bracelet in her cleavage. Not surprisingly, the guard obliged and the jewels were handed off.
The once-missing bracelet — along with her other bracelet and a pair of earrings — were returned to Chopard the next day. So all’s well that ends well, but we can’t imagine how freaked Hendricks must have been. We hate losing things, especially when they aren’t ours to lose, especially when they’re worth close to a million dollars.
