Religion doesn’t get too much air time in the fashion industry unless we’re talking, say, Kate Moss in a nun’s habit or Riccardo Tisci‘s penchant for Catholic imagery. But in the newest issue of Du Jour, Coco Rocha gives a frank account of her experience as a Jehovah’s Witness in an arena where few, if any, share her faith:
“There aren’t many Witnesses who are in the public eye. I can’t even name any. So, yeah, it’s hard sometimes when you’re here alone. You’re not there with someone who can hold your hand and say we’ll do this together.”
The model also addresses the religion’s oft-ridiculed practice of door-to-door preaching, which Rocha says she herself does weekly to help spread the faith. “Some people think we’re a pushy religion,” she tells the magazine, “but if you’re not interested, just say so.” Something tells us people might have a harder time saying “no” to Coco than most.
