It seems we are not alone in finding Brad Pitt‘s big money Chanel No. 5 commercial a little comical. Conan O’Brien poked fun at the black-and-white, Joe Wright-directed spot on his late night show yesterday, rechristening the fragrance “Brad Pitt’s Nonsensical Ramblings by Chanel.” Which, ok, seems about right when you consider the script, which the actor recites along with his best pensive, existential look:
“It’s not a journey.
Every journey ends, but we go on.
The world turns, and we turn with it.
Plans disappear, dreams take over.
But wherever I go, there you are.
My luck, my fate, my fortune.
Chanel No.5, Inevitable.”
The concept, the house confirmed prior to the ad’s release, was that it would seem as if Pitt were speaking to a woman, until it is revealed that he is addressing the fragrance. But the question is: would you be seduced by this little bit of poeticism? Or do you, like Team Coco, think it sounds like Pitt is making it up as he goes along?
