As far as recognizable hairdos go, Conan O’Brien‘s carrot-colored hair flip is up there with Anderson Cooper‘s trim silver crop or Donald Trump‘s
toupee sparse combover. If you really need proof, just look at the late night host’s 1996 Rolling Stone cover, which parodied the signature coif.
Last night, however, Conan tried out a new look, inspired by Michelle Obama‘s freshly-shorn bangs, after Busy Philipps visited his set and called the cut “the talk of the nation.” As for the guest, Philipps explained that she has attempted the style a few times herself, albeit less successfully than the First Lady:
“I think she looks incredible with the new ‘do, but I know personally, about every 3-5 years, I think cutting bangs is a good idea and I do it and I instantly regret it, and then I spend a year growing them out.”
Conan, meanwhile, pointed to the “French dessert” on his head and demonstrated why bangs really aren’t for everyone after all:
